Firefighter Training
Mudgeeraba RFB trains every Tuesday night except for the bi-monthly meeting nights which occur on the second Tuesday nights in the months of February, April, June, August, October and December.
Due to the large number of active members we are currently restructuring our training system and creating three teams. So far this system seems to be working well and has made training more manageable, with everyone being able to participate.
Membership of the Rural Fire Brigade is open to all people at least sixteen years of age and of good character. We are always looking for more members and anyone who lives within a reasonable distance of our station on Mudgeeraba Springbrook Rd are welcome to join.
New members are welcome to join at any time of the year. Membership is probationary for three months and is then ratified by the brigade at a general meeting where you will be presented with your Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) - overalls, helmet, goggles and gloves. New members are required to have a current first aid certificate before they can become a ratified member.
All new members undergo training and mentoring with one of the senior firefighters as well as starting their Fire Management 1 qualification. In our brigade, all members must have completed FM1 and First Aid before they can enter an active fireground. During their training all members do attend burns to learn hands on skills on a live controlled fire. Due to cases of members leaving and not returning PPE we now request a $50 deposit when PPE is issued. This will be refunded after 12 months of continuous active membership (and we are convinced you are an ongoing member) or if you leave the brigade and return the PPE. We have a limited amount of PPE to lend to new members.
Please have a look at the calendar for more details on training, news and events.
The following video is of a group training exercise and demonstrates the sort of training that is offered.
